Was fortunate to be a music journalist for a while, and Kirk was playing at a Jazz Fest in the Caribbean.
Wanted to interview him and he had a lovely dry humour, especially when he leant over the table (yes, it was just the two of us …no other hangers-on) to tell me a little of his history. He went to hold my hand, which chuffed me no end, but had to inform him that I was right-handed so by doing that, I could not take my shorthand notes.
He smirked and proceeded to take the other hand too. ‘Who needs to take notes, just smile at me’. Yes!!!
